On Love & Food!

Valentine's Day is around the corner, and from Valentine’s chocolates all the way to Thanksgiving dinner, what do all holidays have in common?   Food! As humans, we have  an innate connection between love and food, whether it’s family gathered around a turkey dinner or a romantic dinner on February 14.  Let's face it, most of us associate feelings of pleasure with food.  Some of our happy food associations come from: Elizabeth learning how to bake with Grandma  Both of us coming home from school to snacks and amazing dinners made with love by Mom   Paul impressing dinner dates with his ability to really max out on "ALL YOU CAN EAT" sushi and the sake or beer that accompanies it Enough, already! Can’t we find healthier ways to express love and celebrate? And since it’s February, let’s think about ways to do it for Valentine’s Day. Instead of focusing on consumption, what if we focused on things like:   Creativity – writing a love letter or letter of gratitude

Why Counting Calories DOESN'T Work!

If you've ever tried to lose weight, you've probably counted calories. And if you're a woman, you've probably fixated yourself on consuming 1,200 calories per day . (Weird fact: most women think they should eat 1,200 calories per day for no apparent reason). It seems like women have just "heard" over the years this is the goal number.  So, here's why calorie counting doesn't work: You probably don't know your RMR (resting metabolic rate) . This is what your body needs to function and stay alive. Without this baseline, everything is just guessing. Food labels are off by as much as 25% in either direction - a HUGE variance! Your gym equipment is also off by as much as 25% with how many calories it's telling you you've burned. (Between this and the food labels we could be off by 50%!) We all process and absorb food differently. 3,500 calories isn't 1 pound of fat. Not all ca

Welcome to the best year of your life!

Hi Everyone! As we break into a new year, I want you to see what’s possible. Below you’ll find a letter from you to yourself at the end of 2021.  “It’s December 31, 2021. What an amazing year it’s been – especially after the craziness of 2020!  I’m so happy and grateful that my health is the best it’s ever been. Getting wildly fit this year and building a body I’m so proud of is something I’ve wanted to do for years, and I can’t believe I finally made it happen! I’ve put forth effort to take care of myself like never before and I can’t believe how it’s paid off! My family is happier and healthier as a result.  My relationships are better than ever.  I’m performing better at work, even working from home! I’m so energized that I get more done in a day now than I used to in a week!  Best of all, I’m more confident than I’ve ever been, and the compliments don't hurt either It’s truly amazing! I just wish I hadn’t waited this long to get serious about this change I wanted to make for

Carb Control

Hi Everyone! Happy New Year!  Elizabeth checking in with you all! As some of you may know, Paul and I have been busy this last year! We have joined forces and we are now branded as Let's Go Fitness Adventures LLC. As we kick off the new year, I will be sharing relevant content biweekly related to health and wellness to keep you motivated throughout the week, and Paul will keep kicking your butt with training! So, let's begin with a hot topic: CARBS! Starchy carbs (aka "simple" carbs) get so much attention when it comes to nutrition conversations because they are the biggest double-edged sword our bodies have to deal with. On one hand, all of our energy in the body comes from glucose molecules (carbs in their basic sugar form) but on the other hand, our bodies weren’t designed to be surrounded by so many readily available carbs (I know, BUMMER!).  So when our body does get an onslaught of starchy carbs (
